Location Situated at Rossbrin Cove, a sheltered inlet on the
south-west
coast of Ireland,
with the famous Fastnet Rock and Lighthouse just
8 nautical miles off our
shore, we are probably the most
south-westerly boatyard in Europe.
Close by are two typical West-Cork villages: Schull with it's busy
sailing harbour and Ballydehob at
the
top
of Roaring Water Bay. The
nearest towns are Skibbereen and Bantry.
A short drive away you will find a wonderful beach at Barley Cove
and the spectacular Mizen Head. The distance to Cork Airport is approximately 100 km, and Cork City, European Capital of Culture 2005,
is well worth a visit.
To find us by Road From Cork City, Port or Airport take the South Ring and then the N71 to the South-West, through
Inishannon, Bandon,
Clonakilty, and Skibbereen to Ballydehob.
At Ballydehob the N71 turns off north to Bantry. Keep going straight,
over the bridge and
through
Ballydehob, taking the R592 in the direction of Schull.
About 3 km out of Ballydehob, on the main road to Schull, turn off at
the road sign to Rossbrin Cove and Rossbrin Boatyard and just follow that road straight south and down to the boatyard.
Attractions The waters along this coast are a sailor's paradise, with many harbours such as Schull, Crookhaven, Baltimore, Castletownsend or Glandore,
all with excellent pubs and restaurants. There are beautiful islands to explore, like Castle Island, Sherkin or Cape Clear, all of which have lovely sandy beaches. But most little islands amongst 'Carbery's 100 Isles' are inhabited only by seals, otters, puffins, cormorants and other sea birds.
In Schull and most other harbours you will find regular Club Racing where visitors are always welcome to take part. Schull is also the venue for the Fastnet International Schools Regatta, an annual event hosted by Schull Community College and Calves Week, hosted by Schull Harbour Sailing Club. During the summer months there is hardly a weekend without one of the local annual regattas taking place somewhere, featuring rowing races and many other festivities.
A sailing holiday in this area will be truly memorable, and if you can't tear yourself away in time to sail home, you can always leave your boat with us, where it will be well looked after until your next holiday.
